SIS Medical’s balloon catheter gets approval

Switzerland-based cardiology products manufacturer,SIS Medical’s high-pressure balloon catheter OPN NC – Super High Pressure PTCA balloon was given an approval to be used in India and to be sold in partnership with Translumina Therapeutics, the stent manufacturer.

The OPN NC has a double balloon structure, a high wall tension and a low diameter growth to be used in cardiology to dilate narrowed heart vessels.

The high pressure balloon catheter OPN NC – Super High Pressure PTCA balloon has been approved for a pressure of up to 35 bar and for patients with calcified or severely calcified vessels. The use of the high-pressure balloon catheter can lead to full restoration of the blood flow in the diseased vessels and gives the heart muscle with adequate amount of oxygen. This can help coronary heart disease patients improve their physical performance.

The balloon catheter is advanced to the narrowed section of the blood vessels with the help of a guide wire and catheter, it is then inflated with pressure of up to 35 bar. The rate of standard bypass surgery has gone down by 80% with the use of this method.

SIS said that their products have been known in the Indian market for years because of international congresses or their use by European doctors. Indian doctors say that these products will expand therapy options for treating patients and partially replace expensive, less efficient devices and instruments.
