The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), under the scheme “Aapli Chikitsa” opened two laboratories in Mumbai, to provide free of cost diagnostics to patients. This scheme was set up to reduce burden on civic hospitals, considering the number of tests being done on a daily basis.
To get a free blood test, patients can visit their nearest municipal clinics or peripheral hospitals, healthposts and dispensaries. According to the scheme “Aapli Chikitsa”, private labs appointed by the BMC, will collect daily samples from civic clinics and will submit the test reports either via email or hard copy.
BMC plans to invest Rs 16 cr as the budget in the first year and Rs 72 cr over the course of next 4 years, for this scheme to be implemented successfully. A proposal to sanction the appointment of the laboratories will soon be sent to the standing committee for final approval. 7 lakh blood tests are estimated to be conducted by the laboratories.
