CMR Surgical announces Versius, a robotic surgery platform

UK based CMR Surgical just revealed the Versius system, a portable, modular robotic surgery platform that can be used in minimally invasive and laparoscopic procedures.

The new Versius system, when compared to Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci surgical system is more versatile, cheaper and has a smaller form factor that includes individual, cart-mounted robotic arms.

The reduced size of the Versius allows it to move between ORs and hospitals easily and gives surgical professionals better physical access to the patient. It has a four-axis wrist joint and can copy the movement of a human arm, along with that it also has multiple working positions and 3D HD vision.

It can be used across a wide range of specialties and aims on increasing the rate of surgical situations where it can be useful.

With cheaper access to the platform, CMR hopes that it will increase worldwide access to minimally invasive procedures and aid in making robotic procedures more common.

CMR plans to give the device through managed service, such as technology, training, instrumentation and assistance after a hospital system decides to perform a set number of procedures per year.

CMR is certain the global market for robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery will, go from just $4 billion to 420 billion by 2025 and the company in itself has doubled in size, since its launch in 2014.
