New scheme throughout the country for early detection of cancer

The National Health Mission (NHM), has appointed accredited social health activists, auxiliary nurse midwives, and other health workers to screen and generate awareness about the various risk factors of NCDs, i.e. Non-Communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. This scheme is already underway in over 150 districts across the country and is not only said to help in early diagnosis of diseases but will also cause mass understanding of the potential threats involving NCDs and. Under this Population Level Screening, almost 72 lakh people have been screened till date for common NCDs.

The Government of India has also launched the National Program for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) under the National Health Mission for generating consciousness about Cancer prevention, screenings, early detection and referral to the right doctor for treatment.
